Liverpool host Napoli
Liverpool are looking to secure the first place in Group E of the Champions League when the Reds host Napoli at the Anfield on Wednesday night. In our Champions League predictions we will talk with you about this clash.
The European champions are leading the group with one point ahead of the 2nd Napoli. This means that Jurgen Klopp’s team will be untouchable at top if they win on Wednesday night. If this happens, Klopp could give a rest to his stars in the last match against Salzburg. The season is really long, so this is going to be a good opportunity.
Napoli are the only team who managed to beat Liverpool in this group so far. This happened in the first round when the Italians won the match at the San Paolo. Dries Mertenes and Fernando Llorente scored, allowing Napoli to beat Liverpool for a second consecutive season in Naples.
Until recently Napoli were leading the group, but they lost the first place after the 1-1 draw with Salzburg in the previous round. Hirving Lozano equalised after Erling Haland’s early penalty, but until the end of the game the Azzurri didn’t manage to score a winner. In the second half Carlo Ancelotti put Arkadiusz Milik and Fernando Llorente on the pitch, but it didn’t work out.
Meanwhile Liverpool didn’t make the spectacle we expected against Genk, but they still secured a 2-1 win at the Anfield. With Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane starting from the bench, two midfielders – Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum scored for the Reds. Mohamed Salah didn’t score, but he made an assist for Chamberlain’s goal.
In our Champions League predictions for today we believe that Napoli’s poor form could be a huge problem against a team with Liverpool’s abilities. Right now Carlo Ancelotti’s boys are in a run of six consecutive matches without a win, which makes Liverpool even a bigger favourite.
